In 2020, Apple's market value reached $ 2.14 trillion, and the nominal GDP of all African countries was $ 2.334 trillion. Another year, a maximum of two, and the indicators will finally equalize.

Fans of conspiracy theories have been saying for many years that there is a secret government in the world that stands above all states and politicians, governing them. This is fiction or true, no one knows for sure, but the leading countries of the world have already noticed the real power of IT corporations.

For example, US officials note that today's tech giants have too much power and pose a threat to the US economy and American democracy.

Most of all, they are afraid that all information about users is concentrated in the hands of IT corporations and they can manipulate it for selfish purposes in addition to obtaining super-profits. For example, redefining political views or pushing necessary laws through popular discontent. In fact, why not?

What is GAFAM and why are they afraid of it

The Big Five, Gang of Five, or simply GAFAM is an abbreviation of the names of the most powerful multinational IT corporations: Google , Apple , Facebook, Amazon and  Microsoft . It was GAFAM that became a bone in the throat of the United States and Europe, and in Russia, officials are not averse to complaining to the president about foreign tech giants.

Why is this happening

Despite the pandemic and the flaring global crisis, as a result of which the GDP of the G20 (G20) contracted by 4.6% last year, IT companies are steadily continuing to increase their market capitalization. The total value of GAFAM as of August 2020 was $ 7.22 trillion, more than the GDP of the 16 G20 countries. Even Apple itself is ahead of Russia and Italy, whose GDP is $ 1.7 and 2 trillion, respectively.

The second is human resources. The most popular social network in the world, Facebook, has no more than 50,000 employees with over 2.7 billion users. This is not to mention the fact that everyone uses the search engine and Android OS from Google, devices based on iOS and macOS from Apple, desktop PCs and laptops with Windows from Microsoft, since government alternatives simply do not exist (for a wide range of users).

The third is freedom. Of course, each company has its own set of rules and prohibitions, but their freedoms are much wider, and the punishments are milder than state ones. The maximum punishment from corporations is banning or deleting an account, while the state has a monopoly on violence. However, it is not for us to explain that for many of the usual acts on the Internet, in reality, you can get a prison term.

For this reason, the friendship between multinational IT corporations and the authorities is gradually fading away. Now, these are dangerous competitors and the struggle between them from year to year is becoming more obvious and fierce. Therefore, in the USA and Europe, restrictive measures are being introduced against leading tech giants, as well as Russian officials often ask the FAS to "make a nightmare" for Apple, Google and others.

Changing the habitual order: constraining factors

If you look through the media, then every time in ambiguous situations, IT rejects politics as much as possible, remaining in a neutral zone. However, this is, to put it mildly, not true. The recent events with the blocking of Donald Trump's accounts in all popular services (Twitter and forever blocked the 45th head of the White House) are direct confirmation of this.

De facto, corporations own the attention of users, the real population, and are not even averse to manipulating people's minds. The question remains - when will this flow into the legal plane?

It is too early to talk about real actions, and there is a good reason for this: as we have already noted, today the monopoly on violence belongs only to the state. The authorities of various countries have well-honed mechanisms of repression and restrictions for any players in the legal field of influence. Illustrative examples: an attempt to block Chinese social networks (TikTok, WeChat) and a ban on Huawei's activities in the United States, attempts to regulate global IT giants in Russia due to their censoring of a number of domestic media outlets, the Great Chinese Firewall, etc.

In the near future, a change in the usual system will not happen also due to the unpreparedness of society itself. This is a long process, but humanity is confidently moving towards the fact that corporations (not only from the IT-sphere) will replace officials and begin to build their states.

From year to year, companies are becoming bolder and more assertive, and multimillion-dollar fines from the authorities are only an incentive for them to become truly independent. Already, large IT players have their own infrastructure, huge cash reserves, love and all user data. It remains to create your own financial system and, based on the preferences of the people themselves, introduce such innovations that would be perceived by users with a bang, and by officials with hostility.

Most interestingly, the authorities will not be able to nationalize the rebellious tech giants - these are not industrial enterprises. The main IT asset is people and intellectual property, which is not tied to a specific place. It's not just about technical developments or software code: Amazon, for example, has 10 million employees working remotely, living in dozens of countries around the world.

It's too late to buy bitcoin, but cryptocurrency is our future

In order to leave the state, corporations need their own financial system, which will not be based on the dollar, euro, and other monetary units familiar to us. The future belongs to cryptocurrency, and if you doubt it, then Facebook, Google, HP, IBM, Samsung, and many other giants are not, actively using decentralized blockchain platforms. It is unlikely that they find it difficult to create their own virtual coins for future calculations.

The tech giants will be able to secure themselves at the expense of private military companies, which have recently been gaining more and more popularity. Given the fact that states are rapidly losing power over the population, which pays taxes and maintains the law enforcement system, the army, the collapse of the system is inevitable. Moreover, the officials are the same people and they are also followers, users of popular services, and resources created by IT: their weaknesses are not a secret.

Therefore, states simply have no chance of survival in the form in which they exist now - only evolution will save them. For example, clumsy, cumbersome state institutions should be transformed into a kind of analog of a subscription: a person pays taxes and receives the benefits, protection, and support due to him by subscription. If a person does not like cooperation, then he should have the right to change the provider of public services. But to be honest, this scenario is hard to believe. Dinosaurs will die out ...

The coming of the new world: when to wait

Wait a long time, but it will happen. The fact is that in most corporations, leadership positions or leading positions on the board of directors are occupied by their founders. Those who still belong to the old system, unwaveringly believing that they are changing the world for the better. But one day they will leave and ambitious careerists will come to their place, and then the changes will begin - full-scale and irreversible.
